Just yesterday, The Wall Street Journal ran this little piece about Kyopo artist CYJO’s work in its Scene Asia blog. The photographer speaks about her source of inspiration, the project’s driving themes, and the lasting impact the work had on her own life: “Although everyone is different, ”Kyopo Project” brings together a forced collective that explores and shows the diverse history and complex picture of Korean migration….This group comes to life because everybody has a longing for belonging. This creates a sense of globalness that fascinates me.”

In July, CYJO’s work was featured in the WSJ as part of the National Portrait Gallery’s show “Portraiture Now: Asian American Portraits of Encounter,” which is on display at The Smithsonian through October 2012.

McAndrews spent five years living in Nevada’s legal brothels, photographing everything from the pimps to the house pets to the girls themselves. On Friday, he’ll share some intimate experiences. DOC NYC, New York’s premier documentary festival, is back, returning for its second year to Greenwich Village with an expanded line-up, two extra days, and more guests, panels, and films than last year!
